About the East County Fire Protection District

The East County Fire Protection District was established in 1981 with a single fire station located in Egypt Mills on State Highway 177 in southeast Missouri, along the Mississippi River in Cape Girardeau County. A year later, in 1982, a second station was built on County Road 621. In 1988, the department officially became a fire protection district and began receiving property tax funding. This support allowed for the expansion of our services, equipment, and training to better serve the growing community. In 1994, we added a third station just north of Oriole on State Highway V. Today, the East County Fire Protection District proudly serves approximately 72 square miles just north of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. We are a volunteer organization made up of dedicated firefighters committed to protecting lives and property. The district operates 15 apparatus, including 2 rescue pumpers, 1 pumper, 4 tankers, 4 brush vehicles, 2 EMS/rescue vehicles, 1 water supply vehicle, and 1 utility vehicle. These are strategically positioned across our three stations—Egypt Mills, Indian Creek, and Hanover—to ensure rapid and effective response to fires, medical emergencies, and other incidents throughout the district.
